What Are The Foods
That Help Prevent
Wrinkles?
Dr.
Nicholas Perricone has a list of foods that help prevent
wrinkles and even makes them "disappear" or at least, so he
claims. He's trying to sell his books, of course.
So, whether or not they are actually foods that prevent
wrinkles remains to be seen.
He is honest about his primary
goal. He's trying to get people to eat healthier by
appealing to their vanity. But, the so-called "three day
anti-wrinkle diet" is not very appealing.
I like salmon as much as
anyone else but seven servings in three days is simply too
much. Salmon probably is one of the foods that help
prevent wrinkles, because it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids,
the primary component of sebum, the skin's natural oils…but no
other doctor would recommend that you eat the same kind of fish
three days a week.
You can eat fish 3-5 times per
week, as long as you vary the type. The primary concern
is mercury and PCB contamination. Atlantic salmon should
be completed avoided, for this reason. Wild salmon from
California, Oregon or Washington may be consumed four or more
times per month, according to the Environmental Defense
Fund. But, seven servings in three days are a bit
much. Leave some for the bears and birds.
Other foods that prevent
wrinkles include specific fruits and vegetables, according to
the dermatologist. That makes sense because fresh fruits
and vegetables are typically rich in antioxidants.
It has been shown that older
skin cells contain more free radicals, but less naturally
occurring antioxidants. Supplementation can help.
But, what if you could apply the foods that prevent wrinkles
directly to your face? Now, you can.
One company has developed a
complete line of anti-aging skincare products for men and
women. They have night creams, day creams and special
around the eye creams, along with hydrating and deep cleansing
masks.
All of their products contain
extracts from foods that help prevent wrinkles in a non-sticky,
non-greasy solution that can be used under make-up or as a
soothing aftershave, depending on your needs.
Some of the foods that prevent
wrinkles have been known for quite some time, but only by a few
people. I'm talking about kelp. In particular,
wakame kelp, a specific variety of the seaweed that commonly
grows in the Sea of Japan.
Wakame kelp has long been
listed among the foods that help prevent wrinkles. But,
only recently did researchers find that the seaweed contains a
variety of vitamins and minerals necessary for the skin's
health. But it is included in anti aging creams for one
specific activity.
Of all the foods that prevent
wrinkles, it is the only one that blocks an enzyme that
destroys hyaluronic acid in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is
an amino acid protein responsible for the skin's elasticity and
firmness. Levels naturally decline with age and without
it, you see sagging and increased wrinkling.
So, eat the foods that help
prevent wrinkles. Why not? But, use creams and
lotions that contain wakame kelp extract, just to be on the
safe side.
